Religious Programming

Building on its original mission of Jewish Education and strengthening egalitarian family values through strong community support, programming at Temple Sinai continues to promote activities that contribute to what the Temple on the Hill is all about. Bringing together Ritual based on Conservative Principles and a sense of what a Family has evolved to be in today's hectic world, our programs at Temple Sinai promote a sense of well-being, togetherness, and a positive outlook on life as it is today, no matter how many members are in your familiy. Singles, couples, children, everyone is welcome at Temple Sinai. Take for instance, our Tot-Shabbat where our Cantor on a Friday conducts an additional Erev Shabbat Service devoted to, and completely oriented towards, families with young children. Founders Hall is transformed, for the briefest of time, into a venue for singing, meaningful prayer and a chance for families to explore our rich Jewish Heritage. Another activity is our "Fridays on Tuesdays" program, where our Cantor teaches various ways to celebrate Erev Shabbat, and carries over to the designated Friday Night Services devoted to singing and prayer.
The ongoing Bible Class conducted by our Rabbi continues weekly. Discussions can range from interpreting Hallacha to in depth discussions of readings in Tanakh or other relevant literature. Our Rabbi also conducts monthly Lunch and Learn sessions following the regular Shabbat service and the Kiddush luncheon. However what Temple Sinai is best at is the spontaneous discussions that occur following the Weekly Shabbat Service. It is not unusual for several congregants so strike up a topic of discussion along with our Rabbi that can continue well into the afternoon. Both Adult Education and Social Action are active at Temple Sinai. Whether forming large groups to visit the National Yiddish Book Center in Western Massachusetts, smaller individual groups to attend Ellie Wiesel Lectures at Boston University, or even smaller groups who meet and discuss the Bible is all part of Adult Ed. Social Action has raised funds for victims of Hurricane Katrina, is part of My Brothers Table in Lynn, Massachusetts, has raised funds for various shelters in neighboring towns and is involved in maintaining a connection between our Temple and teens who have gone to College. Several times a year, Friday Shabbat Dinners following Services gives the opportunity for Temple Families to get together, maintain friendships and start Shabbat. |
